In part 1 you read about my journey through beautiful Munnar and Thekkedy.  So, moving forward to my next destination which was known as the “Venetian Capital” of Kerala or the “Venice of the East”. Alappuzha (or Alleppey) Alleppey is best known for houseboat cruises along the rural Kerala backwaters, a network of soothing canals and lagoons. I rented a houseboat for a day. During day time it was so hot to sit on the deck of the boat; so I kept that plan for the evening which was then ruined by mosquitos. Still, I am glad I opted for an AC houseboat in which I could easily enjoy the serene backwaters without getting irritated from rising temperature and humidity.  Alleppey is a small village where people are settling beside the backwaters and all their commuting is done through water only. Kerala, a state known for its highest literacy rate is not the only reason it is known for!!. It is a state on the Malabar Coast in southern India which is dubbed as ‘God’s Own Country’. And I won’t deny the fact that it is the greenest and the cleanest state of India I have ever visited.  Kerala has everything for everyone, from serene beaches to scenic hills, from beautiful tea gardens to spice plantations and from dense forests to calm backwaters. And if that’s not all, it has a very rich cultural heritage which includes classical dances such as Kathakali & Mohiniattam, Kalaripayattu, etc. And last but not the least, it is popular for Ayurvedic treatments and massages such as Shirodhara, Potli Massage, etc. So, I had my trip planned for 10 days covering the major location of the state.
